The Sásd-based Y Takarmányipari Ltd. has applied for a grant and received 259,99 million forint from the European Union for research and development to innovate turkey feeding.
The aim of the GINOP-2.1.1-15-2016 „Supporting firm’s R&D and innovation activities” project is to support the development of new, marketable products, services, technologies or prototypes with high intellectual value.
The main goal of our research is to develop a complex technology preventing or healing vascular diseases in turkey livestock. The Department for Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Széchenyi István University in Mosónmagyaróvár helped our project by carrying out a small industrial group research. During the research, pathological and histological tests have shown the kinds of histological changes occur in the veins from vascular diseases. Considering the results of the study, we have created an experimental premixture, which was first tested on a small group, then in a pilot scale and at last on industrial scale.
Because of this development we have managed to significantly decrease the prevalence of vessel diseases in turkey flocks. As a synergistic effect, we were also able to reduce the rate of defected gobbler by 2% in the flock. In addition to the current profitability, the functional and developed preservative could increase the profit gain from turkey farming by 8-10%.
The progress was presented at many professional forums and received great interest. The patenting process of the prototype has also begun. The patent rights are due to be granted in the third quarter of 2019.
The Y Takarmányipari Ltd. is already using the prototype in their own integration, and after obtaining the patent rights, we are going to offer the product to other stakeholders in the sector.
